CalCPA Names Burr Pilger Mayer First Recipient of Firm Public Service Award

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Instituting a new annual Public Service Award for Firms, the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA) has presented the 2009 award to Burr Pilger Mayer, a major San Francisco-based accounting firm.

CalCPA’s PSA for Firms recognizes CPA firms that make extraordinary contributions for the betterment of their communities, the state of California or the nation.

Since 1998, Burr Pilger Mayer has sponsored a Because People Matter (BPM) Day in which staff volunteers participate in activities that improve their communities. BPM volunteers have painted, cleaned, and helped maintain facilities; done habitat restoration; and taught lessons to high school students.

During its most recent BPM Day, the firm’s staff performed a variety of tasks for nine different charitable organizations throughout the Bay Area.

Each year, BPM also hosts a fundraiser in connection with the opening of the San Francisco Giants’ baseball season. Since 1998, the firm has raised more than $250,000 to support charitable organizations. Past recipients include the ALS Association Foundation, National Multiple Sclerosis Society and the San Francisco Boys and Girls Club.

In addition to its San Francisco headquarters, Burr Pilger Mayer has offices in San Jose, Palo Alto, Walnut Creek, Novato and Santa Rosa.
