Elects New President
SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Nai Hwang, CPA, of Carmel Valley has been elected president of the San Diego Chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) for 2011 – 12. Hwang succeeds Melody S. Thornton, CPA, of Carlsbad.
The CalCPA San Diego Chapter serves more than 3,100 members in San Diego and Imperial counties. They specialize in a broad range of services — from business consulting and personal financial planning to tax and estate planning.
Hwang is an auditor for the University of California, San Diego. During her career, she has audited medical centers, airport and marine operations and real estate management companies.
A graduate of Tamkang University, Taipei, Taiwan, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Hwang also has a master’s in accounting from what is now the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Mo. Hwang is a certified internal auditor and a certified information system auditor.
Hwang serves on the board of the San Diego Youth Symphony & Conservatory. She also has served on the board of the San Diego Chinese Academy, and she is a volunteer in the Junior Achievement program.
Joining Hwang on the board of the CalCPA San Diego Chapter are Paul A. Zimmer (first vice president) of Brinig & Co., San Diego; Elizabeth A. Smiley (secretary) of O’Donnell & Smiley, La Jolla; and Conor P. Donnelley (treasurer) of Max Perlatti & Associates, San Diego.
The California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) (www.calcpa.org) is the nation’s largest state accounting organization and the largest CPA association in California. It serves 37,000 members in public practice, private industry, education and government. Through CalCPA Institute, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, CalCPA members provide financial literacy programs to high schools and community groups.
