Former Head of CPA Education Foundation Receives CalCPA Distinguished Service Award

The California Society of CPAs has awarded its 2007 Distinguished Service Award to John Dunleavy.

A resident of Redwood City, Dunleavy served as executive director of the California CPA Education Foundation from 1993 to 2006. He also served as interim chief executive officer of both CalCPA and the Education Foundation in 2000 and again in 2004, when CalCPA was searching for permanent CEOs.

CalCPA annually presents the Distinguished Service Award to an individual who has provided long and distinguished service or who has performed a singular act resulting in extraordinary contributions to the accounting profession, to CalCPA or to the community.
Dunleavy became executive director of the Education Foundation in 1993 after having served CalCPA from 1980 as director of conferences and then as head of its member relations operations.

Under his leadership, the Education Foundation expanded the number of continuing education courses it offers California’s certified public accountants, introduced online courses, and began webcasts of selected courses.

Lou Savett, CPA, a member of the award selection committee, said that during Dunleavy’s tenure as executive director, the Foundation became “a model of efficiency and economic success. Each year now, the Foundation’s functions draw some 50,000 people.”
