SFSU Professor Elected President of CalCPA San Francisco Chapter

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — John McWilliams, professor of accounting at San Francisco State University, has been elected president of the San Francisco Chapter of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) for 2005–06. McWilliams succeeds Robert Coté, CPA, of Alameda.

Previously McWilliams served as the chapter’s first vice president. He also has held other chapter board positions and has served on several panels and committees for both CalCPA and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

The CalCPA San Francisco Chapter serves more than 3,700 members in San Francisco, Marin, Sonoma, Mendocino and Humboldt counties. They specialize in a broad range of services — from business consulting and personal financial planning to tax and estate planning.

Some of the activities the chapter plans for the coming months include a joint meeting with attorneys and bankers, a golf tournament and the awarding of scholarships to local college accounting students.

In addition to his duties as an SFSU professor, McWilliams provides consulting services to lawyers and accountants regarding federal tax matters of their clients. During the early 1970s, he was a tax manager for the San Francisco office of a national accounting firm.

McWilliams has a bachelor’s degree in business from Ohio State University and a juris doctorate from Duke University Law School. He has been treasurer of the SFSU Friends of J. Paul Leonard Library and of the Live Oak School’s board of directors.

Joining McWilliams on the board of the CalCPA San Francisco Chapter are Andrea Cope (first vice president), of Burr, Pilger & Mayer LLP, San Francisco; Kathy Yu Liu (second vice president) of Kizan International, Brisbane; Jerry Sample (secretary) of Jerry Sample, CPA, San Francisco; and Jamshed Gandi (treasurer) of Bertorelli, Gandi, Won & Behti, San Francisco.
