PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Good Things Ahead

By Martin Goni, CPA

As your incoming chapter president, I would like to say hello and welcome you to our 2008–09 year of events. I am excited and honored to work with the upcoming board of directors to ensure another great year for our chapter.
Thankfully, “busy season” is over. However, it seems that busy season for CPAs is no longer limited to the traditional three months at the beginning of each year. As CPAs, our entire year seems to be one giant busy season as our profession continues its diverse march into the future.
The danger inherent with this change is that we can easily lose sight of and time for the things that will most definitely help our profession thrive and survive during its journey forward. Naturally, one of the most important things that we can never be too busy to do as CPAs and members of CalCPA is to support and encourage the next generation of accountants to step up and become leaders—nationally and locally—in our profession.
I encourage all of you to help support our chapter events during this coming year, many of which, such as our annual Student Night and our Young & Emerging Professionals program, are aimed at informing our younger generation about what it means to be a CPA and what a great career path it can be for them.
We are changing things up this year for the chapter by adding a golf tournament to the list of fall events.
I hope that through your support this will be a successful opportunity to strengthen our chapter and bring us all closer together. Again, I look forward to working with all of you during the coming year. If you should have any comments or suggestions for me or your board members, contact us anytime.
—Martin Goni, CPA

2008 PCPS/TSCPA National MAP Survey: New and Improved

Find out how your firm stacks up against others by taking part in the PCPS/TSCPA National MAP Survey, which covers key practice management issues, from billing rates to salaries to services as a percentage of fees.
Survey results will allow you to compare your firm’s management policies and financial results to other firms; gain strategic guidance to build a more profitable and rewarding practice; and help make core business decisions.
Changes to this year’s survey include 40 percent fewer questions; targeted and “user-friendly” results; free summary results report for all participants; and results produced months earlier than in previous years.
The summary report will contain an extract of key performance metrics from the survey, such as hours charged/compensated, major income statement statistics and more. The comprehensive report, available for purchase and free to PCPS members, will include every performance metric gathered by the survey crossed against many relevant comparison groups, as well as additional ratios and analyses of statistics.
The survey is open through July 11.
