PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Upcoming Events
Happy new year! I hope you have all enjoyed the holidays and are off to a great start for 2008. I know many of us have great aspirations for this year. My fingers are crossed for more precipitation and a whole lot less fire action than we experienced last year. This is also a presidential election year, so we’ll have that added element to contemplate. In 10 months, we’ll know who’ll be in the White House, but for now, there’s no telling which of the many contenders will rise above all the campaigning hoopla to become our next president. We have lots of reasons to be optimistic that 2008 will be a prosperous and more peaceful year.
Switching to the more immediate future, I want to remind you of our final CPE event before tax season begins. Mary Kay Foss, CPA and partner with Marzluft, Giles, Tulis & Foss CPAs Inc in Danville, will present a three-hour seminar Tuesday, Jan. 8, titled “The Top Five Things Financial Planners Need to Know about Estate Planning.”
Mary Kay is a member on CalCPA’s Estate Planning Committee and is a past president of the East Bay Estate Planning Council. She has taught estate planning courses for many years for the California CPA Education Foundation and frequently writes articles for California CPA magazine. The $50 cost includes breakfast.
Looking forward to Thursday, May 15, we will welcome Irwin Jacobson, CPA and vice president of finance at Sony Pictures Entertainment. Irwin was extremely well-received when he spoke at CalCPA’s Young & Emerging Professionals Conferences in May. Our dinner event will include an hour of CPE, as well as a brief awards ceremony when we present scholarships to our selected student recipients. Be sure to mark your calendars.
—Cindy Young, CPA
