Join a CalCPA State CommitteeCalCPA state committees and Litigation Section contribute to the success of the profession, CalCPA and its members. State committee membership is balanced to ensure representation by geography, public accounting firm size, business and industry, educators and government professionals. Committees generally meet 2–4 times a year, depending on the work to be accomplished, and alternate between Southern and Northern California. Meeting travel costs is at the member's expense. How Do I Get Involved?Apply online or call (800) 922-5272, ext. 3502. Applications are accepted Feb. 1–May 1 each year. Appointments are confirmed in writing and are finalized in July. The following committees have an application process for membership. Accounting Education *Serve as a forum to promote the exchange of relevant information, knowledge and ideas between accounting practitioners and educators. Facilitate development and support of educational innovation. Foster development of collaborative research between practitioners and educators. Expand awareness of career opportunities. Stimulate support of accounting as a profession. Accounting Principles & Auditing Standards *Determine CalCPA's position concerning proposed accounting principles and auditing standards and generally be CalCPA's official voice on financial accounting, auditing and reporting matters. Inform CalCPA members about accounting and auditing issues through chapter technical sessions and other oral and written communication vehicles. Communications AdvisoryThe Communications Advisory Committee collaborates with and provides creative input to CalCPA regarding communications content, policy and delivery. Estate Planning *To foster the high quality of services provided by members of CalCPA in the field of estate planning, through advocacy, education and the provision of resources to CalCPA members. Financial Literacy *To improve the financial literacy of Californians. Government RelationsReview state legislation and regulations pending or proposed, affecting the practice of public accountancy and determine appropriate CalCPA action in accordance with CalCPA policy. Initiate the introduction of legislation and regulations in subject areas approved by CalCPA Council. Administer CalCPA's legislative relations key contact program and liaisons with state agencies. Coordinates with the AICPA on federal issues. Governmental Accounting & Auditing *Participate in the profession's effort to improve the quality of financial reporting on governmental entities by providing practical guidance to CPAs in the area of governmental accounting and auditing. Management of an Accounting Practice *Assists CalCPA members to efficiently and effectively manage their accounting practices. Assist the membership to apply knowledge, skills and resources to enhance their businesses through consulting with clients. Make information and resources available in the areas of management and general business consulting. Membership *To attract, integrate, and retain members. Personal Financial Planning *Promote this core service and enable California CPAs to provide pre-eminent and profitable personal financial planning services. Public Service Award *Develop and coordinate CalCPA's program for awards and other forms of recognition for significant contributions to the CPA profession, CalCPA and the community. Taxation *Provide up-to-date information and guidance to members on tax laws, programs and regulations. Maintains liaison with the IRS, FTB and EDD staff. Reviews and responds to proposed tax legislation, regulations and revenue rulings. Technology *To identify and study the significant developments and problems of technology affecting the accounting profession. Support the member's use of technology and chapter-level committees. NOTE: Committees identified with an * are state committees with corresponding chapter committees. The following committees are administrative or have an independent membership process and are not included in the state committee application process. Amicus CuriaeParticipates in professional liability litigation based upon a set of established criteria and specific procedures, which gives CalCPA a basis for affecting the outcome of profession-wide issues in the judicial environment. AuditA committee appointed by and reporting to CalCPA Council. Oversees the conduct of the audit engagement and reviews appropriate matters with management. BylawsMonitors, reviews and updates CalCPA's bylaws. This is a committee of CalCPA Council. California Municipal AccountingRepresents CalCPA in a joint effort with the League of California Cities to carry on projects that promote the use of sound and meaningful accounting and auditing procedures and improve the quality of reporting by municipalities. CEO Goals and PerformanceA committee of CalCPA Council responsible for the CEO's goals and performance evaluation. Distinguished Service AwardThe award is given to a member whose influence on the profession, CalCPA or the community is distinguished when compared with that of other contemporary leaders. The recipient is selected by a committee of past winners and CalCPA chairs. FinanceAssures the financial integrity of CalCPA. Develops policies and monitors investment of funds, recommends policy on budget process and financial information reports and asset management of CalCPA. This is a committee of CalCPA Council. Leadership Identification & DevelopmentTo attract, retain and enable members to become leaders in CalCPA. Litigation SectionsThe Litigation Sections, as part of the California Society of CPAs, exists to provide an expanded forum to facilitate participation and the exchange and dissemination of ideas and resources, to identify relevant current events and trends and to analyze technical issues and interpret applicable standards. NOTE: The Litigation Sections is a separate dues paying section of CalCPA. Click here for information on how to join. Members Insurance and BenefitsTo develop and monitor CalCPA's Member Affinity Programs, which are designed to utilize the membership's group buying power to offer discounts on products and services and provide revenue from other sources than dues and investment income. NominationsTo collect and process the candidate applications for officers of CalCPA and at-large members of the CalCPA Council. Nominates officers and at-large members of CalCPA Council. This is a committee of CalCPA Council. Peer ReviewTo maintain the quality of financial reporting through the administration of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants' Peer Review Program. The duty of the Peer Review Committee is to the public interest and includes all the stakeholders of the profession. Professional ConductProvides updates and interpretations on ethics issues and regulations, and encourages members to maintain the standards set forth in CalCPA's Code of Professional Conduct. |
