(Chapter) New Year’s Resolutions
By Bob Johnston, CPA
Happy New Year to the East Bay Chapter! And, what goes with each new year? Resolutions.
No. 1: Involve more of our chapter members in CalCPA activities. We are going to reach out and touch someone—and hopefully many. Efforts will be made to personally invite new members to chapter events. We are planning a new member orientation, as well. At each board meeting we will review the new members to make connections and build relationships. We want to make it clear that every member is welcome and encouraged to become involved.
No. 2: To make involvement easier we are going to develop a booklet that explains chapter committees, including their activities and goals, names of committee chairs (and perhaps all committee members) and committee contact information. In the meantime, you can find the information you need at www.calcpa.org/EB/Leadership.htm.
No. 3: This new year also should be a big year for financial literacy. Outgoing chapter president Rob Healy has done a terrific job of getting our chapter started on financial literacy. He, and Michelle Matlin, Financial Literacy Committee chair, have been in the classroom interacting with high school students and presenting relative financial information to our young people. Several of us from the East Bay Chapter attended the California Summit on Financial Literacy April 26. This was a very successful start to our new fiscal year and a strong emphasis on the wonderful challenges and opportunities in helping all Californians in becoming financially literate.
No. 4: This new year also represents a time to build on the success of our Young Emerging Professional Committee. This committee was new last year so there is still time to get in on the ground floor and help make it the most vibrant committee in the East Bay.
The East Bay Chapter has numerous committees, events and activities. So get involved and help yourself by helping your profession and your community.
