Fall Low-Cost CPE Event, Oct. 28: A&A and AMT

The chapter’s fall education event will feature the traditional A&A update in the morning (learn about what’s coming in the A&A world), followed by Karen Brosi, EA, CFP, who will discuss tax issues of sales of residences and AMT issues in the afternoon.
With the housing prices around the Bay Area appreciating double digits for years now, many sales of residences have gains in excess of the exclusions. Brosi will discuss recent trends and the ins and outs of accounting for, and filing the returns for, these sales. She will also talk about AMT, which is starting to hit many middle-income taxpayers, walk attendees through the advanced issues of this topic and let everyone know whether she thinks relief is in sight.
Brosi has a Palo Alto-based tax planning business and specializes in individual tax and family wealth planning. If you are interested in helping the Low-Cost Education Committee, contact Jamie Menasco at (510) 741-6058. The committee’s programs are about determined for the year, but there are still details to hammer out. And serving on a committee is a great way to get to know fellow members.
Time: 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Location: San Ramon Marriott
Cost: $125/members (both sessions) or $70 for either the morning or afternoon session; $160/nonmembers (both sessions) or $90 for either the morning or afternoon session
CPE: 8 hours

Answer the Call: Volunteer Now Before Disaster Strikes
With wildfire season in full bloom, now is the time to volunteer for CalCPA’s disaster recovery program.
Each year, many families and businesses lose homes, offices, personal belongings, vehicles, important tax and financial documents, and more to wildfires––then face numerous challenges as they put their lives back together.
Only you can come to their financial rescue. As volunteers for CalCPA’s disaster recovery program, members offer pro bono financial disaster recovery advice on everything from dealing with insurance companies to applying for government relief to managing property loss.
