PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Upcoming Events
By Robert Anderson, CPA
Summer is behind us and the busy season is several months away. I am sure you are thinking the same thing I am: It’s time to fill my calendar with CalCPA events. What? You were thinking of going to a Raiders game?
In September our chapter held our second annual business social event in Walnut Creek for CPAs, bankers, attorneys and others in the business community. We had another terrific turnout. This was followed by the annual golf event at Harding Park in San Francisco to support the scholarship fund. This event continues to grow in popularity and in generating contributions to the East Bay, San Francisco and Peninsula chapters’ scholarship funds.
Speaking of scholarships, please direct any potential scholarship recipients to our website for applications. These applications will reviewed in the coming weeks to determine recipients. We are planning an extra-special celebration in January to honor the scholarship recipients and other chapter honorees.
Speaking of the website, I encouraged everyone last month to check out the wealth of information at CalCPA’s website. Use the site to stay current on topics impacting CPAs in California. Spend some time with the list serves and download a podcast of interest (the young people in my office working with headphones all assure me they are listening to CalCPA podcasts. Hmmmmm). Stay current on legislative matters via the Legislative Update. View the resources available under Tech Resources and sort through and sign up for CPE classes and chapter events.
Speaking of chapter events, here are three you do not want to miss:
- Low-cost Education Day: Saturday, Oct. 20 in Pleasant Hill. Topics include audit and accounting update, Windows Vista, Office 2007 and 1031 Exchanges. Speakers include Jim Sanders, John Levy and Scott Haislet.
- The 12th Annual Estate Planning Symposium: Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Round Hill Country Club. This afternoon event will include speakers Keith Schiller and one of our own members, Katherine Rauch.
- Our chapter dinner meeting: Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the Lafayette Park Hotel. Guest speaker will be Gary McBride of California State University East Bay, who will address current tax topics.
So there are three great events to attend, and I look forward to seeing you there.
As always, I welcome your comments and suggestions. You can e-mail me or call (925) 296-1007.
Have a terrific month, and I look forward to seeing you at our fall events.
—Robert Anderson, CPA
