CPA Mobility
CalCPA supports AB 2473, which addresses CPA mobility issues in California. Contact your legislators today and educate them on the importance of this bill to you and the businesses and individuals with whom you work.End of Tax Season? Play Ball!
By Larry Lamb, CPA, Careers in Accounting Committee chairWhat I always like about the end of tax season is that it’s the start of another baseball season. The chapter has asked me to select a few Angels’ games to gauge member interest in attending this summer.
To begin, I selected two games that I believe will get baseball fans excited: Saturday, May 17, against the Dodgers and Friday, July 18, against the Red Sox. Discounted tickets for chapter members are only $20.
We have purchased 45 tickets for the May 17 game and 25 tickets for the July 18 game, which also includes a fireworks show.
The seats are in the upper portion of the view level, between third base and the foul pole. Why the view section? Well, because season ticket holders have gobbled up most of the other sections, our only other choices were on the ground level or lower view level behind the foul pole.
Tickets will be on a first-come basis. If there is enough enthusiasm, we will purchase a few more games for August and September.
For tickets, e-mail me or call (949) 752-5400, ext 33.
Tickets sold on a first-come, first-serve basis.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
A Good Year
This is my last president’s message, and looking back on the year, I hope we provided a good mix of professional and social events to make your membership worthwhile.
We implemented chapter leadership training, produced another successful Fall Seminar Series and executed our inaugural CFO of The Year Awards event (with grateful thanks to Ed Jordan and Stephen Masterson for their leadership). Socially, we gathered at Chimayo on the Huntington Beach pier, learned a little about wine at Onotria and toasted the year at Sutra Lounge.
These events don’t just happen. They are the result of a dedicated chapter staff and our board of directors who creatively work to produce valuable events for our members. I especially want to thank program associate Nancy Wilson for her dedication and energy during my term. Our corporate sponsors also help underwrite our activities, and they deserve our collective thanks and patronage.
Finally, I would like to thank our members for dedicating your time and money to the chapter. The leadership team worked hard to make sure you realized a return greater than your investment.
—Wendy Richards, CPA, CITP

Don't Miss This Year's California Summit on Financial Literacy
CalCPA and the California Jump$tart Coalition are hosting the second California Summit on Financial Literacy at the Sacramento Convention Center Wednesday, April 23. And given the current credit crisis facing the state and the nation, the timing could not be better.
Participants will connect with a variety of programs, organizations and dedicated individuals working to improve the level of personal financial education of all Californians.
As the most trusted adviser, CPAs have a responsibility to address this important issue, and the Summit will offer ideas for everyone concerned.
More program information can found at the California Summit on Financial Literacy homepage, along with registration information and a video from the highly successful 2006 Summit.
CPA Day at the Capitol
Help legislators understand key issues facing California CPAs including the importance of CPA mobility and achieving substantial equivalency in our state. California is a part of a national effort to remove unnecessary barriers to providing services across state lines, which is unjustly costly to the clients of CPAs and may in fact interfere with consumer choice.
The connections you make will prove to be crucial in educating legislators and their staff before they vote on issues important to you as a California CPA.
You will establish meaningful relationships that ultimately will create a more favorable business environment for CPAs throughout California.
Date: Tuesday, May 13
Time: 9:30 a.m./registration; 10–11 a.m./issues briefing; 11 a.m.–3 p.m./appointments with legislators; 3:30–4 p.m./debrief
Location: Sheraton Grand Sacramento; Sacramento
RSVP: Online
