PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Relax...While There’s Still Time
With the holidays approaching, and as I finish off a particularly hectic third-quarter filing of 10-Qs with the SEC and a securities registration statement, I thought this time I would write about taking time off to enjoy the holidays and life.
For my tax peers, you’ve made it through the monthly deadlines and you await the crunch of March 15 and April 15. For my accounting and audit peers, those year-end audits are fast approaching. What better time to remember, as my firm Burr, Pilger & Mayer’s motto says, “there’s more to life than work.”
I hope everyone has a merry and peaceful holiday season and is able to spend less time at work and more time with their families and friends during the holidays.
This past summer, I took my firm’s motto to heart and coupled seven weeks of accrued vacation with eight weeks of unpaid time off to go live and travel in Italy for the summer. It was the best thing I have ever done, and I had a bellissima tempo with relaxation, fun, new friends, the Palio, an Italian opera, a soccer game and many great memories! It was a lot of fun planning the trip during “busy season” and made the long hours a little more bearable last January through March knowing that I had a great trip planned that was fast approaching.
I tell you this story to encourage you to plan your next vacation. Maybe not three months in Italy, but two to three weeks somewhere you can relax and enjoy life and have something to look forward to during the upcoming busy season. So happy holidays, happy vacation planning and we’ll see you in 2008!
—Sharon Selleck, CPA
