Registration Policies

  • Registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served, space available basis.
  • Walk-ins are allowed on a space available basis at the full member/nonmember fee.
  • No walk-ins are allowed for VP members or coupon users.
  • Multi-day programs must be attended by the same registrant each day.
  • The California CPA Education Foundation reserves the right to refuse admission to any individual whose behavior it deems inappropriate.
  • The California CPA Education Foundation also reserves the right to substitute speakers; change locations based on facility availability; and to cancel programs if necessary. Travel expenses for cancelled events incurred by the registrant will not be reimbursed. 

Fees

All standard and VP fees are based on the CalCPA membership year (May 1-April 30). Fees are applied based on when the CPE event is held or CPE product purchased. CalCPA member fees are applicable for CalCPA members in good standing during the applicable term. VP fees are applicable for current VP members during the applicable term. Coupons are valid for one year from the date of purchase. The elearning pass is valid one year from date of purchase.

For AICPA programs, a $30 discount per eight hours of CPE applies to all AICPA members, including VP and Coupon holders. AICPA member ID required.

Cancellation Policies

Up to Four  Days PRIOR to an Event.
If you need to cancel your registration, you must cancel four  days prior to an event, to receive a full refund. Cancellations up to four days prior to the event may be made by calling customer service at (800) 922-5272 or emailingcalcpa@calcpa.org.

WITHIN Four Days of an Event

To cancel within four  days of an event, you must call customer services at (800) 922-5272.  

  • A $125 cancellation fee will be charged for all cancellations made less than four days prior to the event. Add-on fees will not be refunded.

No refunds will be given for no-shows.

  • VP Unlimited—No-shows will be charged the full member/nonmember fee for the event.
  • VP 80—No-shows will have the number of registered CPE hours deducted from their VP80 credit.
  • VP 24—No-shows will have the number of registered CPE hours deducted from their VP24 credit
  • Elearning pass— No-shows will have the number of registered webcast hours deducted. 
  • Coupon users—No-shows will forfeit the coupon used to register.

 
Confirmation Notices
Approximately 5 days before the event, the California CPA Education Foundation will send you an official confirmation/reminder notice (via e-mail or fax, according to your preference). Also, you may access your confirmation notice online at anytime. Please check this notice carefully for FINAL details about the event facility and a link to download materials for events with ebooks. 

Attendance Policies
To be admitted to a course or conference, you are required to legibly sign your name on the official sign-in sheet prior to the start of the event. If you arrive late, you must note your arrival time on the sign-in sheet. If you need to leave early, you must initial and note your departure time on the sign-in sheet to receive partial credit.


Note to webcast group participants: To ensure your attendance is properly recognized, your name must be listed under the “Group Sign In Sheet” that is accessible to your webcast group leader via the webcast browser window on the day of the event. If your name is not listed, please call customer services at (800) 922-5272.

The California CPA Education Foundation archives sign-in sheets as required by the California Board of Accountancy to verify your CPE attendance in the event your CPE records are audited. 

CPE Credit Policies
Events run from 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. unless otherwise indicated. Arrive early to allow time to sign in and receive your materials before the event begins—and to make sure you receive full credit for the day. The California Board of Accountancy records CPE calculated on a 50-minute hour, which is comprised of two 25-minute segments. Once the first 50-minute hour of CPE has been completed, you will receive 1/2 credit hour for each additional 25-minute segment that is completed.

The CBA requires CPE providers to closely monitor attendance during CPE. If you are not in the room during a portion of the CPE event, you will not receive credit. 

Webcasts: To receive CPE credit for a webcast, twice every half hour, you will be required to respond to an attendance question that appears on the screen. If viewing the webcast as part of a group, the group leader is required to answer the attendance questions on behalf of all participants. Group attendance is verified and documented by the group attendance form the day of the event.

New Ethics Requirements
License renewals after Jan. 1, 2010 are subject to new ethics requirements.

  • Four hours of ethics Continuing Education every renewal period.
  • Two-hour regulatory review course every six years covering the California Accountancy Act, plus California Board of Accountancy regulations and enforcement actions.

You can print a personalized certificate of completion from the My Events section of the website. Generally, your official record of event attendance will be posted within one week of the event.

Your CPE record, located under My CPE Record, in the Manage My Account section of the website,will track your credit for all California CPA Education Foundation and CalCPA events. You also can add credit earned from other providers to keep your CPE record in one location. For your convenience, this information is offered in the same format as the CE Reporting worksheet required by the California Board of Accountancy.

Event Policies
Coffee and tea are provided in the morning and soft drinks in the afternoon.  Lunch will be provided for conference programs only.  Parking fees are the responsibility of the attendee.

Event materials are either distributed on-site or electronically in advance of the event.

Self-Study/Online Course Policies
You have one year from date-of-purchase to complete your self-study or online course and pass the final exam. All self-study exams require a minimum passing grade of 70 percent (except for California ethics and regulatory review courses which require a minimum passing grade of 90 percent). You are allowed three attempts to pass the final at no extra charge.  You can access your courses at My Online/Self Study.

Once you are prepared to take the exam, you can easily access the online grading system—included free with the purchase of your self-study or online course. You will receive instant results and can print your certificate of completion for your records. 

CPE Credit

All California CPA Education Foundation programs are developed to comply with California Board of Accountancy requirements. All programs—including live, text-based, online courses and recorded webcasts—qualify for interactive credit.

The California CPA Education Foundation is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit. Note: State Boards have final authority to grant CPE credit. It is each attendee's own responsibility to ensure that any course meets their CPE requirements. Our self-study courses are developed to meet national and state guidelines so our courses can be accepted for CPE credit in all states. Courses comply with the statement on standards for formal self-study programs [National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA)] CPE Standards.

Other Notes:
Idaho: Courses qualify as acceptable continuing professional education programs provided they meet the standards outlined in Section 6 of the Board of Accountancy Rules and Regulations.
Kansas: Courses are designed to meet the requirements of regulation 74-4-8(a).
Louisiana: Correspondence programs qualify as acceptable continuing professional education programs in the state of Louisiana provided they meet the requirements outlined in Chapter 7 of the State Board's Rules and Regulations. Many courses are not accepted for CPE credit in Louisiana.
Michigan: We have agreed to comply with the continuing professional education rules contained in R 338.5216.
Washington: For CPE Rules, visit www.cpaboard.wa.gov .
Florida, Oregon and Tennessee require QAS approved self-study. These courses are not QAS approved.

All our courses are developed to meet AICPA and NASBA guidelines so our courses can be accepted for CPE credit in all states. However, state boards have final authority to grant CPE. Please contact your governing agency to determine if specific courses qualify for your CPE requirements.
