PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Aloha!
Are you signed up for CE week and the CalCPA annual meeting this June? If not, you should be! CE week and our annual meeting are planned for June 23–28 at the beautiful Waikoloa Resort in Kona. This year’s meeting will be a great opportunity to fulfill continuing education requirements and offer the chance to get to know your colleagues in beautiful, relaxed setting. There are great activities planned for spouses and kids, as well, so bring the whole ‘ohana!
And, speaking of fun, the chapter recently had a great social mixer at Country Club Lanes. We were a little intimidated when Jamie showed up with her own bowling shoes, ball and glove, but not to worry, we all had a great time—even though some of us are more “interesting” bowlers than others. If you have suggestions for future social mixers, please send them my way.
Finally, I wanted to touch briefly on an important issue that you will begin to hear more about in coming months. One of the priorities for CalCPA in 2008 is to work to remove unnecessary obstacles to interstate practice. Of late, mobility has become the subject of national debate and CalCPA believes the time has come to revise the law so that CPAs can provide seamless service to consumers and taxpayers. This is a national level issue and California needs to keep pace with what most of the other states are doing.
You can read more online.
Specifically, CalCPA is supporting a legislative change to California’s laws affecting mobility. CalCPA is advocating for the change because it will benefit California CPAs, as well as those from other states. Overall, however, it is our clients who will win. Business interests do not stop at the state borders.
It is my hope that you will be able to join us for CPA Day at the Capitol May 13. Your participation is critical this year as we work to educate policymakers about the importance of this issue. We have to have a strong turnout from Sacramento, as we are right here at the Capitol. Please make plans to attend. More to come on mobility in next month’s newsletter.

CPA Day at the Capitol
Help legislators understand key issues facing California CPAs including the importance of CPA mobility and achieving substantial equivalency in our state. California is a part of a national effort to remove unnecessary barriers to providing services across state lines, which is unjustly costly to the clients of CPAs and may in fact interfere with consumer choice.
The connections you make will prove to be crucial in educating legislators and their staff before they vote on issues important to you as a California CPA.
You will establish meaningful relationships that ultimately will create a more favorable business environment for CPAs throughout California.
Date: Tuesday, May 13
Time: 9:30 a.m./registration; 10–11 a.m./issues briefing; 11 a.m.–3 p.m./appointments with legislators; 3:30–4 p.m./debrief
Location: Sheraton Grand Sacramento; Sacramento
RSVP: Online
