PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Do’s and Don’ts

By Conrad Davis, CPA

Recently my son came home from his first day of third grade and told me he was asked to write a page on what he did during summer vacation. In addition, he told me he was asked to write a page on what he did not do over the past summer. While he was explaining the writing project to me, I started thinking about my own “did do” and “didn’t do” summer lists. If you are at all like me, you have probably already guessed that the “didn’t do” list was much longer than the “did do” one.
For most of us, life just seems to get busier and busier with each passing year. Commitments to meeting family and personal goals, while also continuing to provide the very best in client service, keeps life challenging. On top of that, professional development, working in service to the profession (for example, committee work for CalCPA—which is very much appreciated!) and volunteering in the community (which I know so many of you do) add to our already busy schedules.
Having said all this, I want to maximize the time we use for regular meetings and social events. After discussing with many of you the idea of creating a quarterly meeting schedule (rather than the monthly schedule we now use), it seems that this format will provide the greatest opportunities for our chapter.
By the time you read this, we will have had a great golf tournament. I look forward to this event every year not only to play golf, but also to talk to CPAs and other professionals I only see a few times a year. Even if you don’t play golf, consider attending the after-golf auction and take advantage of this networking opportunity.
We are planning the next chapter meeting as a practice management and tax season kickoff in mid-January. We are considering having it in the afternoon instead of the morning. We want this to be a valuable time for improving our tax season and meet before we dive into the tax returns.
I am looking forward to seeing many of you over the next few weeks.
–Conrad Davis, CPA
