PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Fabulous Fall

By Narelle E. MacKenzie, CPA

Welcome to Fall! For Halloween I am thinking of getting dressed up as an excerpt from FIN 48 or FAS 109—truly scary stuff and keeping me very busy.
Speaking of FIN 48, come and join the Business and Industry Committee Wednesday, Oct. 31 when we learn about FIN 48, current issues, things we have learned and issues still uncertain. This topic is relevant to anyone who prepares or audits tax provisions and provides a great networking opportunity and to hear how others are coping or planning to cope with this issue.
From work to relaxation, come and join us at Rancho Bernardo Winery on Thursday, Oct. 25 to network with your fellow CalCPA members.  What a great way to meet people in a beautiful setting, especially at this time of year! Register online.
In September I represented CalCPA at SDSU and talked with students about accounting careers and the benefits of CalCPA. I encourage each one of you to consider hiring interns from the schools here in San Diego. Whether you are in industry, local practice or a larger firm, your role in showing these students various accounting careers is invaluable in getting more students into accounting and showing them the real world.
Don't forget that Wednesday, Oct. 17 is our new member lunch. If you have recently joined CalCPA, expect to receive your invitation. If you have not recently joined, but would like to come and be reminded about the benefits of CalCPA, register online for this free lunch. This is another great networking event, as well as an opportunity to meet your local leadership and register your interest in joining a committee and getting involved in the chapter.
I hope the beginning of Fall brings some cool weather and you are able to participate in one or more of our many CalCPA networking opportunities.
Narelle E. MacKenzie, CPA
