President’s Message
Busy Year Ahead
By Tara Eastwood, CPAI hope everyone is having a wonderful summer. Busy season seems like so long ago, but it will be here again before we know it so enjoy yourselves.
It’s an honor to serve as president of this wonderful chapter for the coming year. I want to thank the board and committee chairs for their hard work and I look forward to a great year. I have been on the board since 2003 and have meet and worked with some wonderful people. I encourage all of our members to become involved with CalCPA either on a chapter or state level. Whether it’s helping at one of our scholarship fund-raisers or attending a discussion group meeting, there is something for everybody. For anyone interested in participating or just to hear what the chapter is planning for the year ahead, please attend one of our board meetings. The next meeting will be Thursday, Aug. 2 at 11:30 a.m. in Manteca. Please contact chapter program associate Karen Howard if you would like to attend.
We began the 2007-08 year May 15 with the Members Annual Meeting and Installation Dinner at the Lodi Wine and Visitor Center. The wine tasting was fabulous and it was great to see colleagues again.
Our next event is the Annual Golf Tournament, the net proceeds of which go to our scholarship fund. It will be held at Elkhorn Golf and Country Club Monday, Aug. 27. Registration and lunch will begin at 11:45 a.m. with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner is also included. For those of you who do not golf, you may come to the dinner for only $30. We had about 75 golfers last year and are trying to reach our goal of 100! I hope to see all of you there!
June 22–23 chapter vice president Michelle Mord and I attended the CalCPA Annual Members Business and Council Meeting June 22–23. One of the items discussed was the financial literacy project. This was first introduced during 2003-04 and is going strong. The outreach has been tremendous and each chapter is doing what it can to support this initiative. As a chapter we are looking for someone to lead this committee for us for the 2007–08 year and are also looking for chapter members who would be interested in going to schools in our area. There will be a free “Train the Trainer” session worth four hours of CPE Friday, Aug 3 in Sacramento at the Sterling Hotel. RSVP by contacting Crystil Turner.
Our year is just getting started and there is already a lot on the calendar. Future events will be announced in upcoming bulletins or you can always visit our chapter homepage for event and meeting information, as well as other chapter news.
I look forward to a great year and seeing all of you at one of our chapter events.
– Tara Eastwood, CPA
