Member Benefits
By Mark Croce, CPA
Although I have been a CalCPA member since 1994, I have to admit that I had never taken the time to explore all of the membership benefits CalCPA offers.
It took more than 10 years and a term as your chapter president to learn all that CalCPA has to offer. I learn about new benefits offered at each meeting and I have now taken the time to explore the CalCPA website. In a word: Wow!
From the various CalCPA communication outlets, including Candidate Connection (geared toward students and those new to the profession) and CalCPA Industry Buzz e-newsletter, to the various affinity programs (did you know that you can obtain a 40 percent discount on CCH’s U.S. Master Tax Guide 2007 and Guidebook to California Taxes 2007?), there is so much to offer.
Although I could never list it all here, let me list a few of the items that I have discovered:
I realize that many of you probably already know that CalCPA is a great resource, but for those of you that just pay your dues and have not yet explored the website (like I used to be), I encourage you to do so. I am sure that even if you have been on the website in the past, you will find something new. Visit www.calcpa.org.
So start taking advantage of all of the benefits associated with your membership. In addition, share what you have found with your colleagues—and if they are not CalCPA members, encourage them to join.
Happy Thanksgiving! Now let me see, is there an affinity program for Weight Watchers …?

CalCPA Member Discounts on CCH Tax Guidebooks
CalCPA has added another great member benefit—40 percent discounts on CCH’s U.S. Master Tax Guide 2007 and the Guidebook to California Taxes 2007.
The U.S. Master Tax Guide 2007, 90th edition, reflects all pertinent changes to federal taxation that affect 2006 returns, as well as new rules established by key court decisions and the IRS.
The Guidebook to California Taxes 2007, 58th edition, reflects new legislation, regulations, court decisions and Board of Equalization decisions through December 2006.
Orders are being accepted for delivery beginning in December and can be made through the California CPA Education Foundation’s website, which will automatically add tax and shipping charges.
To order either publications, visit www.educationfoundation.org/reference, and enter “2007 Guidebook to California Taxes” or “2007 US Master Tax Guide” in the search field.

Audio Conference: COSO Best Practices for Small Companies
CalCPA’s Business and Industry Committee’s Nov. 14 audio conference will take a look at COSO’s new guidance for smaller companies.
Among the topics to be discussed include how companies lost their control focus; taking a fresh look at the COSO model and how they can benefit non-registered entities; and the IT impact on control environments.
CalCPA member Larry Russell will lead the discussion.
The audio conference will be held noon-1 p.m. To participate, dial (877) 326-0011 and reference pass code *3604743*.
To help the committee better facilitate the call, RSVP to Patti Sustin at patti.sustin@calcpa.org.
