Job Title: Senior Accountant, SEC Reporting
Location: Goleta, CA

 

Summary:

This professional position is responsible for SEC reporting, technical accounting research and implementation, and special projects.   The individual in this position:  (1) possesses knowledge and experience associated with these areas of responsibility; (2) applies theories, methods, principles and practices associated with SEC regulations and GAAP; (3) performs duties associated with financial reporting that are predominantly intellectual and varied in nature, requiring creative, analytical, evaluative, interpretive, and/or critical thinking; and (4) exercises discretion and independent judgment, requiring only limited supervision for day-to-day tasks.

 

Main Responsibilities:

·         Prepares SEC filings: quarterly and annual reports, earnings releases/scripts and corresponding 8-Ks, proxies, registration statements, etc. Coordinates with the Legal department for filings of non-earnings release 8-Ks, Forms 3, 4, 5, 13G, and other filings

·         Implements new SEC regulations, including XBRL

·         Monitors and ensures SOX compliance for financial reporting; updates SOX documentation

·         Recommends and implements improvements in accounting, reporting, and internal controls

·         Works with multiple departments to ensure timely and accurate reporting, including external auditors and executive management

·         Mentors and coaches accounting staff on financial reporting work papers

·         Researches technical accounting issues and makes recommendations to finance management as to the appropriate application of US GAAP and IFRS

·         Documents finance management’s positions taken on various accounting issues; writes white papers and memos

·         Monitors and advises finance management on new accounting pronouncements and SEC regulations

·         Prepares work papers to support information in SEC Filings

·         Reviews and approves accounting staff’s work papers

·         Leads and performs various finance and accounting projects

Education/Experience/Requirements:

·         Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field, from an accredited institution, which provides the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, proven planning, organizing, controlling, directing and quality assurance principles.

·         Must have a CPA

·         At least 5 years experience in financial statement preparation, review, and analysis.  Such experience would normally provide the individual with the ability to: create quality work programs; maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; appreciate the benefits of diversity; demonstrate versatile communication skills which can counsel and educate in a nurturing manner; and build respect based professional relationships.

·         At least 2 years of recent SEC reporting responsibilities

·         Proficient in Excel, Word, Outlook

·         IFRS experience a plus
