Julie Schilling stepped into the Chief Financial Officer role at the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA) in mid-2015.
Julie has 20 years of leadership experience in accounting, financial reporting and audit and has worked for and served clients in the Insurance, Healthcare, Medical Technology and Non-Profit sectors. She is known as an articulate and enthusiastic executive with an engaging and inclusive approach.
Prior to joining CalCPA, Julie worked at California Casualty Management Company from 2001-2014, where she served as Vice President, Controller from 2007 – 2014. In the Controller role, Schilling successfully led the Accounting and Financial Reporting teams through significant process improvement projects, financial and regulatory audits, and a full implementation of a new accounting software application. Through her dedication to integrity, accessibility and responsiveness, she built a strong relationship between management and the Board of Directors and worked closely with the Audit and Financial Review Committee.
Julie began her career in healthcare, working as a Financial Analyst at a large university teaching hospital. That experience led to a position on the audit team for Ernst & Young LLP’s largest Orange County healthcare client. She was known by her colleagues to be an instrumental member of the engagement team, regardless of the client’s industry or size. Partners valued and endorsed her prior work experience as it enabled her to better understand clients’ needs and challenges.
Helping others and serving her community has always been important to Schilling, and she is especially passionate about empowering and encouraging women to reach their highest potential. She is a graduate of the 2015 Wilpower program and is currently serving as a small group leader for the 2016 program. Wilpower is sponsored by Leading Women in Technology, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the advancement of women and helping them unlock their full potential by providing programs designed to accelerate critical business and leadership skills.
Julie has served as a Director on the Board of the Peninsula chapter of CalCPA, and through CalCPA she has partnered with younger CPAs in mentoring relationships. Encouraging younger professionals to seek out new challenges and sharing from her own experiences has been an enriching and rewarding part of her professional life.
Julie is a Certified Public Accountant and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting and a minor in French. She is a member of CalCPA, the American Institute of CPAs and Financial Executives International.
