The corporation provides direct loans and loan guarantees to customers in the Salinas and Santa Maria areas. Cal Coastal operates 8 loan programs ranging from $5K - $50K in loan size.

Job Summary:

Reporting to the organization’s Board of Directors, The CEO / President is responsible for the overall direction of the organization in meeting its mission, as well as to optimize income, return on equity and return on assets. In addition the CEO / President will provide leadership in establishing current and long-range objectives, strategies, policies and plans, while acting as the principal representative of the organization with the press, major customers, other business, community and industry associations and supervisorial agencies. This position directly supervises senior officers, including, but not limited to, the CFO/Controller, Chief Credit Officer, SBDC Director and Marketing Manager.

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Assume overall responsibility for the continued development, implementation and updating of the organization’s strategic plan;
  • Ensure organizational goals and objectives are met and/or exceeded in a timely manner;
  • Develop, monitor and report on annual budgets and performance milestones established by the Board of Directors;
  • Provide management team direction, in an effort to ensure that a the varied loan programs offered by the organization are met with acceptable organizationally-approved underwriting;
  • Establish and maintain a value system that emphasizes transparency, full disclosure and good faith in dealing with clients, creditors and governmental partners and promote small business enterprises with a specific emphasis on economically disadvantaged persons;
  • Report to the Board of Directors on a regular basis regarding profitability, underwriting, personnel and overall success;
  • Work with loan committees to create an effective and balanced credit policy;
  • In addition to providing leadership to the staff on all levels, maintain exceptional relationships with governmental organizations at all levels;
  • Recruit, select and develop employees who have the ability to add value to the organization;
  • Possess effective project management skills;
  • Be instrumental in the organization’s marketing efforts, external communications and public speaking engagements;
  • Possess exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, fundraising and grant writing skills;
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft office suite of products;
  • Fluency, oral and written in Spanish, a plus.


  • B.Sc. Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or similar discipline, necessary; Master’s Degree preferred;
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role, required;
  • In-depth knowledge of agricultural-related lending, required.
