The Tax Filing Assistant performs administrative and clerical support work under the supervision of the Assistant Executive Director.  This position follows all established procedures and is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Tax Filing Support Center such as analysis and filing of association and tax-exemption documents with agencies such as the Attorney General’s Office, IRS, Franchise Tax Board and Secretary of State. Provides tax filing support, guidance and advice to more than 3,500 association PTAs that fall under our group exemption working collaboratively with volunteers, staff and government entities.

Salary Range:

$37,440 to $44,930

Essential Functions:

  • Provides customer assistance to PTA leaders to help their local organizations meet tax filing requirements.
  • Works in close consultation with staff, state PTA leaders, and district and local leaders to research and effectively address tax-filing questions/matters.
  • Responds to inquiries from district presidents and district financial officers regarding exemption status, dissolving of corporation, and other miscellaneous requests.
  • Assists with the analysis and filing of association documents such as filing for tax exempt status and dissolutions of incorporated units.
  • Assists with any State, Federal and Attorney General related questions, emails and follow-up.
  • Assists with the processing of 501 (c) 3 letters
  • Performs data entry and other basic administrative tasks utilizing Excel, Word and FileMaker.
  • Assists with phones, mail and general office administration as needed
  • Maintains confidentiality and follows all established procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of administrative experience, preferably in a compliance-driven environment
  • Knowledge of nonprofit reporting requirements including AG, IRS, FTB and SOS preferred
  • Highly organized and able to manage a large number of priorities and deadlines at one time
  • Detail oriented, self-starter and highly motivated
  • Ability to communicate complex procedures in easy-to-understand format
  • Excellent custom service skills and a desire to help local volunteers with compliance and regulatory challenges
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Positive outlook and communications style
  • Team player and collaborative.
