2017 Campus Ambassador Program - More


Ready to share your knowledge and help other students launch their accounting careers? Become a CalCPA Campus Ambassador for the 2017 spring semester!

Campus Ambassadors are students passionate about pursuing accounting as a career and becoming CPAs. Ambassadors display strong leadership and organizational skills, the ability to connect with peers and enthusiasm for CalCPA and the CPA profession.

Campus Ambassadors will be responsible for approximately 20 hours of work per semester in order to achieve three primary objectives:

  • Building awareness of FREE CalCPA student membership benefits for students and educators on your campus
  • Increasing the visibility of CalCPA on your campus through hosting an event
  • Strengthening ties between local CalCPA chapters and your school through reports on your activities on campus


  • Campus Ambassadors will receive a monetary stipend proportional to the size of their respective accounting programs at their schools each semester
  • Opportunities to earn bonuses based on optional duties
  • Free admittance to CalCPA chapter events
  • Recognition CalCPA’s website and publications
  • Networking with professionals from local chapter and statewide leaders of CalCPA
  • Opportunities for sophomores and juniors to be appointed for a full academic year as a campus ambassador upon satisfactory completion of their spring 2017 term
  • Complimentary second year of candidate membership (must contact CalCPA Institute during first year of candidate membership)


  • CalCPA member (Student membership is free. Sign up here if you are not already a member.)
  • Sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student attending a four-year college or university or graduate school with a graduation date of June 2017 or later
  • Declared business, economics or finance major or minor, and the intention of pursuing a CPA license
  • Have and maintain a 3.0 GPA or above in all major related courses
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States
  • One essay on why you want to become a CPA (no more than 500 words)
  • One recommendation letter from a faculty member
  • Ability to travel to Sacramento for the overnight orientation from Jan. 30–31 (CalCPA will cover travel, lodging and meal expenses. Exceptions to this requirement will be made on a case-by-case basis.)

Appointed ambassadors will be notified during the week of Nov. 28.


Schools will be classified as large (L), medium (M) or small (S) according to number of candidates who sat for the CPA exam in 2015 as reported by the 2015 NASBA Report on the CPA Exam on Candidate Performance. The criteria will be as follows:

  • Large, 150+ candidates
  • Medium, 50 to 149 candidates
  • Small schools, under 50 candidates

Ambassadors will receive a stipend per semester that is proportional to the size of the accounting program at their college or university. $750 for large programs, $500 for medium programs, $250 for small programs. In order to receive the stipend, all ambassadors must complete the following:

  • Recruit student members
  • Hold one event related to accounting, CalCPA or financial literacy on campus
  • Documenting activities and submitting a report at the end of the term

In addition to the three deliverables required of all campus ambassadors (recruiting student members, holding one event on campus and reporting on their activities). Ambassadors are eligible for additional bonus pay for completing the following optional assignments:

  • 10% bonus of the period stipend (complete two tasks to receive entire bonus)
    • Attend one chapter student or YEP event during appointment
    • Identify potential ambassador successor
    • Assist CalCPA Institute with securing a venue for the California Financial Literacy Roundtable (schools are to be identified by CalCPA Institute)
  • 15% bonus of the period stipend (must complete two assignments in order to receive entire bonus)
    • Attend and bring 3 or more students to a chapter student or YEP event
    • Submit one written article for posting on local chapter blog (150-200 words max)
    • Conduct one hour workshop on financial literacy or accounting careers presentation to non-accounting, business or finance majors on campus (in addition to one mandatory event)
    • Meet with BAP or AS executive officers for coffee to promote CalCPA and find out how the society can assist students in their journey to becoming CPAs. Report findings to CalCPA Institute. (Ambassadors would be reimbursed for this expense)
