In this session, we will continue and expand our discussion of Current Accounting and Auditing Issues in Employee Benefit Plan Audits & What the DOL looks for in a 401(k) Plan Audit. Please note: This is new material and not a repeat of what was covered at the June 12 meeting.

We will review key 401(k) areas which the DOL/IRS focus on when  they audit plans. This presentation will help educate CPAs on high-risk areas in a 401(k) plan and highlight steps they can take to do a better audit thereby benefiting their client.

Deepa Bhat, CPA, Senior Audit Manager with Abbott Stringham & Lynch and George Pinto, CPA, partner with Silicon Valley Accountancy Corp. will provide an update on Accounting and Auditing issues and 2015 changes.

Instructors

Deepa Bhat, CPA
Deepa Bhat is a board member of CalCPA's Silicon Valley San Jose Chapter as well as co-chair of the ERISA and AP & AS Committees. She is well versed in employee benefit plan audits. Deepa was awarded the CalCPA Women to Watch: Emerging Leader Award in 2016. Deepa has a Master of Commerce in Accounting and a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Tax from the University of Mumbai, India. She holds a Master of Arts in Economics from Rutgers University, and is a Certified Construction Industry Technician (CIT). Deepa holds the ICAEW certification for IFRS for Small and Medium-sized Entities.
George Pinto, CPA
George Pinto, CPA, CGMA, has been in the accounting profession since 1985. He began his career with the international accounting firm, Deloitte, Haskins & Sells. A resident of Silicon Valley since 1980, he co-founded Silicon Valley Accountancy Corporation and manages the accounting and auditing side of the firm, primarily conducting ERISA audits. Mr. Pinto has taught the 401(k) audit class to CPAs through the AICPA and the CalCPA Education Foundation. He is co-chair of the ERISA committee for the Silicon Valley Chapter of CalCPA.
