We will discuss Current Accounting and Auditing Issues in Employee Benefit Plan Audits & What the DOL looks for in a 401(k) Plan Audit. We will discuss and focus on key 401(k) areas which the DOL/IRS focus on when they audit plans. This presentation will help educate CPAs on high-risk areas in a 401(k) plan and review steps they can take to do a better audit which also helps their client. 
George Pinto, CPA, partner with Silicon Valley Accountancy Corp., with nearly 30 years' experience auditing ERISA plans will provide an update on Accounting and Auditing issues and changes that will affect the 2018 audits.
Jake Parsons and Ava Carnevale, PGR Solutions LLC, will discuss various non-discrimination tests to understand when a plan isn't operating compliantly and Safe Harbor Options to qualify a plan to meet fiduciary and compliance duties.
Chris Wilhelms, OneAmerica, will present a five-point check-up, addressing investment and fiduciary responsibilities for the Qualified Plan Sponsor and what the auditor should know regarding plan operation and plan sponsor compliance. She will cover participant education & communication, plan fees & expenses, plan design & administration, investment portfolio review, and fiduciary responsibility.

Ava Carnevale
Ava Carnevale is a Corporate Retirement Plan Specialist at PGR. Ava joined the PGR team in November of 2017, coming from her previous role advising plan sponsors in Boston, Massachusetts. Ava spends her time working directly with business owners and plan sponsors to help their companies optimize their retirement plan benefit by making investment management and fiduciary obligations transparent and simple. She is a Registered Investment Advisor Representative, a Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor (CPFA), and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®).
Jake Parsons
Jake Parsons is the Principal/CEO of PGR Solutions. Jake is a firm believer that you can do anything you set your mind to. As a child he wanted to become a fighter pilot for the US Navy and he did just that. He served this great country proudly for 13 years and continues to do so in the Navy Reserve. Jake earned his B.S. in Physics from the United States Naval Academy, an MBA from the University of Southern California and is a registered Certified Financial Planner (CFP).
George Pinto, CPA
George Pinto, CPA, CGMA, has been in the accounting profession since 1985. He began his career with the international accounting firm, Deloitte, Haskins & Sells. A resident of Silicon Valley since 1980, he co-founded Silicon Valley Accountancy Corporation and manages the accounting and auditing side of the firm, primarily conducting ERISA audits. Mr. Pinto has taught the 401(k) audit class to CPAs through the AICPA and the CalCPA Education Foundation. He is co-chair of the ERISA committee for the Silicon Valley Chapter of CalCPA.
Chris Wilhelm
With over 20 years experience in financial services and working with retirement plans, Chris’ current focus is on helping financial advisers to establish ERISA plans for their business clients and prospects. Her expertise is assisting financial advisers to prospect for opportunities in their community as well as profile the business to create a plan design that maximizes the benefits for the employer as well as their employees.
