Please join us for this informative presentation as it focuses on providing tax advisors with the tools to effectively manage clients with foreign activities such as individuals holding foreign financial assets or U.S. businesses operating overseas. Specifically, the presentation will focus on U.S. businesses with foreign subsidiaries, reporting required on the revised Forms 5471, and required reporting information for GILTI AND FDII provisions. The tax advisor will also be provided with a checklist for the items needed to properly complete the required forms and document the tax positions appropriately.

Objectives:

  • Recognize major changes to foreign financial asset and foreign income reporting for US persons as a result of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act..
  • Gain an understanding of the new IRS forms and disclosure requirements to report foreign financial assets and what information is needed from the client in order to effectively prepare the forms in an efficient manner.
  • Identify potential planning opportunities from reviewing client-provided information in order to take advantage of various incentives associated with foreign operations.
  • Determine how to appropriately document tax positions for foreign subsidiaries.

Robena Jafari
Robena Jafari is a Partner in the International Tax Practice at Squar Milner with over 15 years of International Tax experience. Robena began her career as in-house tax counsel and has spent time in the Big 4 accounting firms. She has experience with planning and implementing strategic cross border tax strategies, value chain strategies, international mergers and acquisitions, as well as providing strategic guidance to start-up companies. She has worked with a variety of companies across multiple industries including life sciences, SaaS, MTM, retail and manufacturing and has experience advising public and private companies.
