"The delicate balance of mentoring someone is not creating them in your own image but giving them the opportunity to create themselves."
—Steven Spielberg
Have you ever wondered about the differences between being a mentor and being a coach? Is there a difference, or are these roles interchangeable? A mentor works with the entirety of a person's life and career while a coach focuses on a specific issue or area to develop. During the first phases of our careers, we receive both mentoring and coaching from more experienced professionals. As we ourselves are being mentored and coached, we are learning how to provide that same resource to the next generation when our own time comes. As more practiced professionals, let's all be sure to reach out to our staff to mentor them as they build their careers in the accounting field, encouraging them to pursue the roles in accounting that will bring them a fulfilling career journey.
"We make a living by what we get, we make a life by what we give."
—Winston Churchill
