Feb. 4, 2026 | SACRAMENTO, CA—CalCPA’s annual CPA Day at the Capitol concluded Feb. 4 after discussion panels and legislative meetings between CalCPA’s leaders and state lawmakers, marking the start of the association’s advocacy efforts for the 2026 legislative year.
This year’s event featured a legislative summit headlined by presentations from California Treasurer Fiona Ma and Sen. Roger Niello, both CPAs themselves. Discussions broadly touched on state policy priorities, business policy outlooks, state budget insights and Board of Accountancy activities, among other subjects.
“One of our most important events, CPA Day gives our members the forum to speak directly with our state’s leaders, whether about business outlooks broadly, or certain policies specifically,” said Denise LeDuc Froemming, CalCPA’s president and CEO. “Engaging with elected leaders allows our members to make a real impact, on behalf of the 40,000-plus accounting professionals we support.”
The event also spotlighted Sen. Niello’s introduction of Senate Concurrent Resolution 111, recognizing how CPAs, under CBA oversight, have helped build trust, accountability and integrity across California’s economy and public institutions for 125 years.
“The Resolution underlines CPAs’ central role in the state’s economy, especially moving forward, as part of organizational sustainability reporting, AI assurance, and evolving tax issues,” said Jillian Phan, CalCPA’s chair. “We’re proud to help grow the profession and set up the profession for the next 125 years.”
Additional presenters included Missy Johnson (Nielsen Merksamer), Dominic Franzella (CBA Executive Director), Rob Gutierrez (California Taxpayers Association), Ben Golombek (CalChamber), and CalCPA President & CEO Denise LeDuc Froemming and CalCPA Vice President of Advocacy & Public Affairs Jason Fox.
